Good systems start with better questions.

Hi, I’m Matthias.

I work in software engineering and technical leadership. I like understandable systems, honest conversations, and finding better ways to get things done. Outside work, I’m usually trying out an idea or figuring out how something works.

Complexity should
earn its place.

I like understanding how things work and where they could be simpler. Sometimes that means writing software, sometimes automating a repetitive task, and sometimes asking a better question before building anything.

Good architecture also needs trust. I enjoy mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and making trade-offs visible. Honest feedback and a system someone else can maintain matter more to me than an impressive diagram.

Understand the problem. Make the trade-offs visible. Keep it human.

A direction, not a finished story

Becoming AI-native.
Not AI-everything.

I’m working toward becoming AI-native: finding where AI helps me think, build and get useful work done. Not adding it everywhere. My aim is to test useful habits on real work and keep only what makes things better.

Three questions I want to explore

  1. 01

Can we understand unfamiliar code faster?

Explore AI-assisted code walkthroughs, then check the explanation against the source. Understanding matters more than a confident summary.

  2. 02

Which repetitive work is worth automating?

Try small, bounded workflows. Include setup and review time when measuring what they actually save.

  3. 03

Can AI help pressure-test our thinking?

Use it to surface alternatives and challenge assumptions. Keep technical judgment and the final decision with people.

The test: human review, real time saved, and no loss of quality. These are explorations, not proven results.

Things I’ve been trying

Early daysToday

It started with a Raspberry Pi for my smart home. Over time, that curiosity grew into running my own Kubernetes servers and local models, alongside models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Gemini.

These days, I’m trying everything from having agents generate apps to personal AI assistants and managing my servers. Tools like Hermes and OpenCode help me connect the models with tools and everyday tasks. It’s still the same impulse: try something, see how it works, and keep learning.

Some of that turns into small apps: a different way to revisit photos, a clearer view of everyday finances, or an assistant I can simply talk to. If you’re curious about any of them, ask me.

Off the clock

Not every good idea
starts at a desk.

Long walks with my dog. Gaming. Playing around with AI, trying out ideas, and tinkering with my smart home. I’m usually quiet, often curious, and quite happy finding out how things work.

Sometimes a walk is the most useful next step.
